You might have a great product or service and a top team but if you do not market effectively on the internet then no one will know about it or be enticed to visit your website. Here are some tips on how to do internet marketing when you’re just starting out.
Don’t expect instant success
Marketing, no matter what you’re selling – unless it’s a genuine cure for male pattern baldness – is always going to be difficult. In fact, marketing becomes easier as your audience grows, so the hardest bit is when you are just starting.
Make sure you have plentiful page content
Your website needs to be full of useful, relevant and well-written content. Your homepage should explain exactly what it is that you do and why customers should choose you over your competitors. It should do this in at least 300 words, since the more good content you have, the kinder search engines will be to your site and the higher you will come up in searches. All of your pages should have at least 300 words of content where possible, although 300 words on the contact page might be a bit too much to ask. As well as search engines, people will be more likely to stay on your website if it has well-written and relevant content that explains what you do and how you can help.
Update your blog frequently
Blogs are excellent ways to market online. You can do blog posts about anything you like. You could do a post about your team’s charity run, your new product, a new employee or even an employee’s birthday. A great blog post that really sets companies apart is a high-quality article written by an employee about something they are an expert in. Perhaps they have an opinion or advice about a new development in the industry that others would find interesting? With every blog post you do, make sure that post about it on all of your social media platforms.
Do a variety of social media posts
Your social media presence needs to be constant, regular and varied. You can post about all sorts of things that could engage with your followers, such as competitions, polls, images and links to blogs you’ve written. You could also make videos for your social media presence, and these could be anything from video interviews of employees to footage of your company charity event. You could even create your own animation to make something really unique to catch people’s attention.
Make use of analytics
In order to succeed in internet marketing, you need to be able to measure your performance. Analytics tools allow you to analyse both your website and your social media presence. You can use Google Analytics on your site to look at bounce rates, landing pages and number of visitors each month, and compare them at different times. You can also use Facebook Analytics to see how much engagement you are getting with each of your posts.
